Charles River is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement to acquire privately-held NewLab BioQuality AG (NewLab) for approximately $53 million in cash. NewLab, a Dusseldorf, Germany-based contract service organization, provides safety and quality control services to biopharmaceutical clients. NewLab is expected to achieve revenues in a range of $20-$23 million in 2008. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the third quarter of 2008, subject to customary regulatory approvals.

In the new facility, Charles River is working side by side with NCI in a seamless partnership to produce the highest quality research models available.

The Charles River Biotech Symposium unites drug developement professionals in an interactive setting designed to provide insights into nonclinical development of biologics, regulatory isssues and innovative approaches to problem solving. Presentations will be given on the nonclinical development of specific products or topics of general interest spanning a wide range of biopharmaceuticals. Given its focus on specific issues, the symposium has become known as a unique platform for scientific exchange, networking, education and lively debate.
The nonclinical issues that arise during the development of biopharmaceuticals present challenges for even the most experienced scientist and require creative strategies for resolution. The Charles River Biotech Symposium will unite drug development professionals in an interactive setting designed to provide insights into nonclinical development of biologics, including regulatory issues and innovative approaches for problem-solving. Attendees will benefit from hearing the thoughtful perspectives presented and by engaging in robust interactive discussions.
Assists with Study Participant admission, orientation, conduct and discharge. Demonstrates skills in phlebotomy, laboratory procedures, use of ECG machines, vital sign equipment and other appropriate technical skills required by protocol. Adhers to policy, OSHA guidelines and protocol requirements.
Assist veterinary staff in the documentation and triage of all laboratory animal health cases. May also perform technical in-life procedures.
Manages the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Quality Assurance program at Charles River, Preclinical Services, Nevada site. Work with site, divisional and corporate management to ensure consistency with meeting business objectives. Responsible for assuring compliance with all federal and state regulations including Charles River site and corporate policies, GLP, USDA and DEA regulations. Ensures that Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) responsibilities are fulfilled as defined in 21 CFR Part 58 GLP regulations; develop and review departmental policies and procedures to support GLP requirements. Serve as key company representative during regulatory and client inspections.
